Rachel Schetrom is more than just a teacher—she’s a guide to new perspectives, a champion of immersive learning, and a believer in the power of travel to transform education.
As a dedicated Spanish teacher at East Hardy High School in Baker, West Virginia. Passionate about language education and cultural exploration, she strives to bring Spanish to life for her students through immersive learning experiences, including international travel opportunities. In 2024, Rachel was honored as Hardy County Teacher of the Year, recognizing her commitment to excellence in education and her dedication to inspiring students beyond the classroom.
Rachel’s journey as an educator is deeply rooted in both her academic background and personal experiences. She graduated from East Hardy High School before pursuing higher education at James Madison University and Washington and Lee University. She later furthered her expertise by studying English as a Second Language (ESL) at Marshall University. Her deep connection to the local community, combined with her passion for global learning, makes her an influential mentor and advocate for student success.
As the driving force behind Viajes con Señora Schetrom, Rachel leads educational trips abroad, providing students and families with unforgettable experiences that blend language, culture, and history. Through her leadership, students gain real-world language skills and a broader global perspective, preparing them for a lifetime of cross-cultural connections.
Rachel lives in Baker, West Virginia, with her family and has been happily married since June 5, 1999. She remains deeply connected to her hometown of Wardensville, West Virginia, and is proud to call the Appalachian region home.
